Usage with another program

Hello, i'm working on a little statistical application for our university department. This application takes input, processes it and then generate Matlab code (with hardcoded input values -- processing is really tough).
Now my questions:
- i would like to link my program with Matlab (or Matlab generated standalone executable), to let it calculate results and return them back into my program. Preceding versions used pipe to communicate with Octave, but Octave doesn't meet new requirements for rather complex statistical calculations. Is there any way how to communicate with Matlab or standalone Matlab generated executable via pipe or so?
- Does that mean that every computer using this program has to have installed copy of Matlab and thus pay for license? (Program will be used by researchers and students only, there is no possibility to use it for any commercial purpose.)
Thank you in advance for reply,
best regards,
Vladimir

Hello Vladimir, I suppose you have not received an answer, as there are non-technical aspects involved, and this is a technical forum. It may also need a verbal conversation about options that are specific to your university.
I suggest that you get in touch with MathWorks (or in your case the Distributor in your country, if I am not mistaken: http://mathworks.com/company/worldwide/?code=cz) to discuss options. Typically, there is also a main contact person at the Computer Center of your University who keeps close contact with Humusoft.
