Solving System of PDEs by pdepe

I'm trying to solve a system of PDEs by the pdepe solver. My equations are first order in time and one-dimensional (parabolic). I get the error of "DAE has index higher than 1".

I have already solved this system of PDEs numerically but am very interested in comparing my results with Matlab.
