matrix to paraview file

I have a 1024x1024 matrix with heights and would like to convert it in matlab to a file format that I can read into paraview which I can then view as a surface. I see there are codes out there but I don't know how to convert my matrix properly. Thanks for the help.

Oliver - have you seen Joe Yeh's File Exchange submission for vtkwrite?
