Error Starting Desktop when I open MATLAB R_2014a Student Version on Mac OS X Yosemite

When I try to open the MATLAB application on my computer, I get an "Error Starting Desktop", which I have attached as an image. The only reason I can think of for this happening is that in the many months between now and when I last used MATLAB, I updated my OS. What should I do about this? I assume that I don't have to buy MATLAB again. Any troubleshooting would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if my Java version has something to do, I'm running 8v31.
