Modeling network TCP/IP performance

I'm new to Matlab and Simulink, but I was drawn to these tools because of the supposed powerful discrete-time event simulation framework. I would like to use these tools to emulate the performance of applications running on a typical OSI network protocol stack -- something that OMNet++ and NS-3 do already. Basically, can someone point me in the direction of resources needed to emulate NS-3 simulation type functionality?
