Help with a model for simple object motion estimations (pixel-based motion detection) for video (ASF file format)

Hi, I would like to get suggestions of a simple tool that could solve following problem:
I have video files in .ASF format (Video Codec : MPEG4-SP ASF File Format), the video clips last for c. 5-10 seconds (PAL: 10fps at a resolution of 704 x 560).
For each video file I wish to measure the average and maximum pixel change caused by a moving object during the 5 seconds long video.

I'm new to Matlab and a simple tool is preferable.
