I have a problem install Matlab on my Windows 8.1 64bit laptop, the installer runs and a window pops up indictaing that it is configuring windows visual C++ after this action is completed nothing happens. Any suggestions?

I have just downloaded MATLab for windows 64bit and the downloaded file automatically unzips and runs the installer. A small window displays saying configuring Windows Visual C++ a bar moves across the window indicating activity for about 20 secs and then finishes. Then nothing else happens. I have removed all virus checking software and tried again but problem remains.
Any suggestions.
