I downloaded the Adobe Flash Player update using the Safari browser. When I try to install the udpate, it opens MATLAB instead and I get the following error message:
Error Dialog
Error using open (line 162)
Cannot edit the Simulink Protected Model file
Why does this happen?

This error occurs because the the update installer file uses the MDLP file extension. This file extension is registered for protected Simulink models, and thus MacOS X launches MATLAB to try to open the file. To work around this issue, select the file in Finder and then press Command+i to bring up the Get Info window. Click the arrow next to *Name & Extension* to reveal the full file name. Remove just ".mdlp" from the file name (leaving ".dmg"), hit Enter, and confirm the change in the dialog that appears. Close the Get Info window, and then double click on the file to run the installer.
