Hello, in older MATLAB Versions, the workspace sorting of "sort by name" is based on the ASCII number:
A
B
C
a
b
c
In MATLAB 2014b, the sorting appears like
a
A
b
B
c
C
Is there a possibility to change the sorting to the old preference?

I'm surprised not to find a 'legacy' option in sort, Sort array elements. With vectors there is a simple work around
>> str = 'AaBbCc';
>> [~,ixs]=sort(double(str));
>> str(ixs)
ans =
ABCabc

Hi Christian,
There is no option to change the sorting to the old preference.
Looks like this was a design choice by the development team so that the sorting of variables in the workspace would follow the same order as the sorting of variables in the detail panel. In MATLAB R2014a and later, variables are sorted by alphabetical order first, and lower case variables appear before upper case variables in case of a conflict.

Is there no command to change the sorting logic in the workspace panel?

You don't take no for an answer. Not according to to the documentation of Matlab.
