How do I unsubscribe MathWorks promo e-mail list?

5 views (last 30 days)

Is there a simple way of unsubscribing the MathWorks promotional mails without either calling them by phone, contacting them by e-mail or creating a filter?

EDIT:

Per Isakson provided the answer.. To unsubscribe MathWorks promotional e-mails go to the following link:

Aye, it sure is a robot reply... I was just wondering why "A Customer Support Representative will contact you(me) within two business days" is necessary for such a simple job...
I didn't know about Customary from the RFC protocols. It sounds interesting but I have a hard time finding information on exactly this topic. Is it just a standard in which a 'respondent' should interpret strings such as 'unsubscribe' and 'fwd'?
Thanks again for you time and help!

RFC 2369
3.2. List-Unsubscribe
The List-Unsubscribe field describes the command (preferably using
mail) to directly unsubscribe the user (removing them from the list).
Strictly speaking, the format should be something like
mailto:list@host.com?subject=unsubscribe
but I've found most simply parse the Subject and ReplyTo: generally works so tend to overlook...
There are other defined protocols with message in Body, etc., as well.
Given that the 'bot generated the standard reply as to a support request, I'm guessing it doesn't in this case however, and as it is all web-based stuff there's a good chance it may not follow RFC 2369 at all; it's just what I automagically/reflexively do as it does work in a fair fraction of cases.
I just noticed Per's response; I'd forgotten about how the preferences pages were setup and hadn't gone to look...looks like that's probably the way in that they expect you to update your profile as desired...

I don't get it. Isn't this good enough? At the bottom of the page I find

clicking Manage takes me to

Okay, I haven't tested if it has any effect to unsubscribe.

Fine that it worked. Yes, I've deleted the attached file.

"For future reference, unsubscribing can be done here:..."
How did you find that link? I couldn't get find anything that looked anything like that from the www.mathworks.com site...curious interface at best. :(

We don't even know what promotional emails you're getting. Why don't you just call them on the phone for fastest service. We volunteers here don't have access to the Mathworks computers to do anything for you. Even if we did, we don't even know your email address. Only they can help you and since you say you're not getting results via email, then call them on the phone .

I'm posting on a MathWorks community site, thus I believed it was self-explanatory that I receive promo from MathWorks. I also think it's a bit overkill to give the support team a phone call for this kind of task... Even contacting them by mail is a waste of time for both parties. Also, I'm asking how to unsubscribe a service -> I'm not asking you to do it for me.
Unsubscribing promo services is a task that the 21st centuries Homo Sapiens is well acquainted with - It is often made very easy and I expect it to be easy. I furtherly expect, that if I can not find an easy way to unsubscribe a promo service, then it must mean that I am a bit of a chump and that I have missed something :-)
Now, if there is a whole community that has no knowledge of the existence of a simple method like...
  • "There's an unsubscribe link -here-"
  • "Go to your profile settings and..."
  • "Silly head! You missed a button -here-"
... then I can safely assume that there does simply not exist a simple method and I will just filter the messages as dpb already pointed out was the easiest thing to do.

I know it should work and should be automatic but if your experiences prove otherwise then sometimes the old fashioned way works best. Computers are programmed by people and sometimes make mistakes. Have you ever unsubscribed from something only to be back on it months later? Or have your password change for no reason when you know for a fact that you didn't change it? It happens to us, or at least me, all the time. If their automated processes don't work I don't hesitate to pester them either by targeted emails or by calling someone. Maybe if enough people call them, and use up their time and resources, they'll fix the automated methods. By the way, I don't even know what emails you're getting. Some people get some when their question in the Answers forum is answered, or if someone changed a File Exchange they were watching, or if someone rated or posted a comment on their File Exchange submission, or if there is training the Mathworks wants to alert you to, or if there is a new release to download, or if someone wanted to send you a message from your profile, or..... Maybe they have different mailing rules for all of those situations, or maybe some are the same - I don't know.
