Matlab quits as soon as i run imshow() command

I am using mac OSX 10.5.8.
Installed software MATLAB 2008a on it.
And i am facing a problem that, as soon as i execute
imshow() command on any image.
it displays the image and then immediately Matlab quits!!
I even tried reinstalling a new updated version of matlab... but the problem still continues!!
pls Help
