Desktop error starting Matlab 2012b - since install of Yosemite OS on iMac

Attempt to open Matlab 2012b, since install of Yosemite OS on iMac, gets "Error Starting Desktop" with multiple lines beginning with java.lang.NullPointerException, ... com.apple.laf.AquaButtonUI.setThemBorder(AquaButtonUI.java:91) ... etc.
Matlab will not open after error message window closed
Your help will be most appreciated.
