how do i calculate a number between two values?

I need to calculate a coefficient Z (by iteration) which lies between the values of -0.2 and 0.2. If the value of Z is found , another iteration has to be done between the upper and the lower value of Z, then Z needs to satisfy a number of conditions. Can any one help me in this. Sorry for what is probably a very basic question but I am new to programming in matlab
