Use only integrated graphics on a MacBook system?

3 views (last 30 days)
My Macbook pro has two GPUs: a low-power Intel Iris, and a dedicated higher-power Nvidia 750M. The higher power one drains the battery faster, so I'd prefer to use the Intel one. However, Matlab forces the system to activate the Nvidia GPU. I know this program can work on the Intel GPU in OS X as it launches and runs fine on a Mac Mini that only has this Intel GPU (no dedicated one).
Is there a setting or way to force Matlab to either turn off advanced graphics, or only use the Intel GPU? I've tried using tools like gfxCardStatus to force this, but Matlab overrides this. In addition, I've tried using the "opengl software" command in Matlab, but this claims software rendering is not supported in OS X.
Thanks a bunch for any help.

I have exactly the same problem. Most of the time I can sacrifice performance for battery life, especially since Matlab is often just open in the background.
