Procedure for changing operating systems

I am planning to switch to Ubuntu 14.04. I'm currently running Kubuntu 15.04 on my PC and I am unable to launch Matlab or carry out any tasks with it. What do I have to know to switch operating systems ? Is it counted as an uninstallation of Matlab if I completely erase the data of Kubuntu 15.04 and install Ubuntu 14.04 again ? Will I encounter any complications with my license and the activation of Matlab when I perform a fresh installation after switching operating systems ?
