How can I embed a .mat file into powerpoint?

I have tried copying and pasting into powerpoint. I've changing the file extension and tried inserting into powerpoint (i.e. bmp, pdf, txt etc), however, when I copy the file back out of powerpoint and try to run it in matlab I get the following error: Error using load Unable to read MAT-file blahblahblah.mat: not a binary MAT-file. Try LOAD -ASCII to read as text.

I did notice that powerpoint adds somesort of header to the file. I've tried deleting the pp header but still no luck.
