Distance between 2 successive crest and trough of an ocean wave

Hi guys
I am doing a time series analysis on a series of ocean wave data(data presents wave heights vs time)and for some reasons I need to find wave heights;distance between 2 successive crest and trough. I though I could use findpeaks function but it seems it is not just like that. Anyone could help me out with this issue, please?
