Hello everyone,
I am recently going through this issue which has never happened before using two different versions of MATLAB on the same computer with the same operating system (Windows 8.1 64 bit). During the startup, MATLAB (both MATLAB 2009a and 2015a) keeps crashing, and an error message appears saying that "MATLAB has stopped working" (see attached screenshot).
I am assuming something happened recently to the operating system making MATLAB not running as before since I had no problem running them before on the same computer. I do not remember if I have done any major change.
The steps in the link provided http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-winapps/matlab-has-stopped-working/542c4fcf-8f13-4c2f-a146-f7c26974d20a were performed as suggested in the web, but that did not help. A system restore cannot be done since there wasn't one created.
I really appreciate your help

I am having the same issue on Windows 8.1 x64 Enterprise. Have you resolved this? Matlab r2015a. An additional note is, we have keyed the exe with Keyaccess from Sassafras. I wonder if you have also.

I realize this is an old post, but I have had the same issue and finally found the cause for me. It turns out my system was set to detect proxy automatically and the resultant proxy required authentication. I just disabled automatic detect proxy for my internet settings and it was no longer an issue.
