I am interested in using the matlab compiler sdk and I am wondering if the project I am attempting to compile utilizes the computer vision toolbox, does a separate license need to be purchased for that toolbox in order for it to compile?

You can use this command to know if your code use the Computer Vision Toolbox:
1) Run the code; 2) In Command Window:
>> license('inuse')
matlab
video_and_image_blockset
If the code use Computer Vision Toolbox will appear: "video_and_image_blockset"
To compile this code, you will need the products called by functions. On this case, if the code runs using Computer Vision Toolbox, you will need of this product to compile.
I hope this help.

Right. All products used in the code need to be licensed for the session that is running the Compiler SDK product.
