I am unable to start the licence manager on my Ubuntu 14.04 LTS machine:
-
  1. I have copied and extracted the required files from our University server to my machine.
  2. Start the installation procedure with the file installation key.
  3. During installation there is only the option to install the licence manager, not any other matlab toolboxes.
  4. I get confirmation that the licence manager is installed, but I need to run lmstart.
  5. When I try to do this I get the following error message:
  • /usr/local/MATLAB/R2014b/etc/lmhostid: 332: /usr/local/MATLAB/R2014b.etc/lmhostid: /usr/local/MATLAB/R2014b.etc/lmhostid: not found
  • Error: Your host does not match any SERVER line in your licence file. Your local lmhostid(s) are: Your hostname is: frederik-Latitude-E6500The SERVER line(s) are:SERVER licmatlabresearch.ugent.be 000000000000 27002
  1. I then get the option to continue to start up licence manager.
  2. If I press yes, the system starts a process with following reports:-
  • "Taking down any existing licence manager daemons..."
  • "No licence manager daemons running..."
  • "Starting licence manager"
  • "Debug logfile = /var/tmp/lm_TMW.log
  • "/usr/local/MATLAB/R2014b/etc/lmboot: 1: eval: /var/tmp/lm_TMW.ld: not found"
  • "Waiting 300 sec for MATLAB vendor daemon to come up..."
  1. Every x seconds there is a message "still waiting" and on the following line date + time + LM_LOGFILE (last 2 lines)
  2. After 300 seconds I get the following note:
Notes:
  1. To print more of the debug logfile use the '-e nlines' option on lmstart or lmboot commands. Use the -help option on any command for help.
  2. To check that the daemons are up run the 'lmstat -a' command.
  3. Use the '-wait secs' option on lmstart or lmboot commands to increase the wait time in batch.
  4. If you are getting 'socket bind' errors in the logfile output first run 'lmdown' and then 'lmstart -k' to verify that all ports are clear. This is CRITICAL when using redundant servers. You must get nothing back from 'lmstart -k' on all servers before you are ready to run 'lmstart' to restart the license manager. This can take up to 5 minutes. If some of the ports do not clear in this time then they could be in use and you should change the port number on the SERVER line in your license file.
When I try to run 'lmstat -a' I receive the following message: ./lmstat: 441: usr/local/MATLAB/R2014b/etc/glnxa64/lmstat: not found
Thanks for your help

If you came by this error it means that you're trying to install Matlab in connected mode to the server of whoever gave you your license, so you must be connected to the said server in order for your installation to work! Alternatively, you can ask your fournisher to give you an autonomous activation key, and then proceed with the installation by registering to Matlab online, activating your key and then choose login in with a MathWorks Account instead of use a File Installation Key in the fist step of the installer.
