Errors transferring Matlab to a new Mac: -9 error + trouble w/ activation/deactivation

Hi,

I have looked at the pages on deactivation and reactivation but they do not seem to be applicable to my version of Matlab for some reason (R2013a student). I've transferred Matlab onto my new laptop, activated it and deactivated my old laptop, but the license is still connected to my old laptop and thus Matlab is confused. How do I fix this? The Mathworks website shows that it is working as it should, but the license will not allow me to pull up Matlab.
