MATLAB R2015b freezes at startup after activation on ubuntu

I have successfully installed and activated MATLAB on my 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04. Whenever I launch it from the terminal using the "./matlab"command, however, it freezes indefinitely. I don't know what could've gone wrong. Is that normal for the start-up process?
