area within a closed curve created by isosurface

Hey guys,

I use isosurface(X, Y, Z, V, isovalue) to compute data from volume data V. Then if set z=z0, I shall get an isoline.

assuming this isoline is closed (also smooth), how can I know the area within this closed curved? and even the length of this curve.

I prefer not to use the function of polyarea.
