How to put back together axis that has been created by splitting a former existing handle by means of subplot ?

I have a uipanel in which I plot the results of my work. I'd like to use the same panel for every kind of data to be displayed and I've been able to show in these axis both video and different kind of images, but if I do the same and display in these very axis (that I first obtained like this: axe=axes([position],'Parent',myuipanel)) two plots at the same time using subplot(), what I get is two new axis and when I display anything else in axe the same trick that once worked what I get is an error message: "Error using axes, Invalid axes handle".

I already tried rebuilding axe as I did the first time and even if this let me display the image I want I still haven't been able to get rid of the residuals of subplot() (both data and labels, etc...); I've deleted them with cal(), but nothing ...
