“Hi
I have MATLAB home edition and I want to obtain update next year for MATLAB and 2-3 toolboxes( I cannot afford to renew all of them (15) ) What happenes if I don't renew maintenance for the other toolboxes ?WIll they work with a new version of MATLAB
Mathworks answer
Toolboxes you don’t renew can’t be updated and won’t work with newer versions of MATLAB. If you need all toolboxes for your applications it is recommended to renew them all.

So what is he saying that if i dont update them at once then i am stuck with old version of MATLAB and i have to buy the toolboxes version for my old matlab version(2015b) ?
This will cost me €418.51 !
Why is not possible renew maintenance for a few core toolboxes and MATLAB and the use them in parallel with the old toolbox ? Toolboxes dont depend on each other as far i understood
For example Mathworks make MATLAB code runs faster and creates MATLAB 2016a ... and i am interested in that. Why do I have to update ALL my toolboxes to get only this feature i care about ? This doesnt make any sense and seems like a rip off from Mathworks
For example i use Instrument Aquisition toolbox and MATHWORKS add new drivers for my device and new capabilities. Since i use it with my Analog Discovery hardware and i want these features why do i need to upgrade also other toolboxes ?? WTF O_o

The toolboxes depend upon MATLAB internals, and those internals change with every MATLAB release, in ways that are often not backwards compatible.
When you start writing large software of your own, you will find that having to make it compatible with previous versions is one of the more difficult parts of the job. Having to test every combination of versions and old releases in order to find out what works and what does not, is a massive undertaking, an exponential explosion of complexity. It takes a huge amount of time and effort.
If you do not pay for a renewal of a particular toolbox, you can still use it by running the MATLAB release you purchased it against.
