Hopfield and binary characters

Hello, i am working on a simple code for pattern recognition with Hopfield network.. I test with same examples and my code works good. But i am trying to use matrix (10x10) that represent letters and my code fail, because is very difficult to build matrix with Hamming distance superior to 30. Do you have some idea, how can I to build these arrays?
