Axis rotation option not found

I am having difficulty rotating my x-axis labels any degree other than the default horizontal. I have found the MatLab page describing where this option should be in v2011b, but for some reason I do not have this option. Has anyone else been missing this rotation option or know of a solution? It's otherwise very difficult to get my axes rotated with the proper font sizes, alignments, etc., and even more difficult to get them to change appropriately with zoom. Thank you very much in advance.

Which OS are you using, and which MATLAB version?
Please check which font you are using. I gather that the system font (that is the default) in one configuration is a bit-mapped font, and that you need to ensure you are using a true-type font instead in order to get rotations.

Hi Walter - I'm using Windows 7 (32bit), MatLab 7.13. I am attempting to make a bar graph, the default font showing up as Helvetica, but I tried Times, Arial, random others, to no avail.
