Why can't I read the videos with MATLAB on linux?

1 view (last 30 days)
I am using VideoReader to read the videos(including .mov, .avi, .mp4 and .mpg). but always get this error.
>> obj=VideoReader('segway03.mov') Error using VideoReader/init (line 442) Initialization Failed.
Error in VideoReader (line 132) obj.init(fileName);
but these videos can be read by matlab on windows. What do I need for using this function? I have installed the gstreamer and the plug-ins. Please help^^^^

The file formats you mentioned are purely container formats. It is the codec used to encode the underlying video streams which will determine whether or not you can read the files. First ensure you have all the necessary codecs installed on your system.

Could you please give me an example on codecs?

If it is a codecs problem then you'll probably need a codecs pack for whichever linux distribution you are using. This is not a MATLAB problem, so I can't give you any examples.
