what is meant by intensity factor(alpha)

DCMm=DCM+(α*Em)
where: DCMm = DC matrix after embedding message
DCM = DC matrix of cover image
α = the intensity factor of embedded
Em = Encryption message i have encrypted the msg and to get dcm i have applied blocproc method i need help to solve this!!

Alpha is just what fraction of the watermark image you’re going to add to the original image.

So does that mean it can be programmer s choice? Like. Can we take 0.5
