Automated techniques to quantify surface area and assign coordinates to objects

1 view (last 30 days)
I am interested in any automated techniques to quantify the surface area of objects, and to assign an ID to each object based on an overlaid grid.
I am attempting to quantify the growth of individual modules that together make a colonial animal. My hope is to overlay a grid small enough such that each coordinate (i.e. A20) contains a single module, and then quantify the surface area of that module.
Has anyone achieved similar goals in Matlab?
Cheers,
Lianne

If your module is not convex, then How long is the coast of Britain?
