Why are figures (.fig files) not opening in matlab when double clicked? Matlab is opening an import wizard and saves it as a variable. ALthough after saving it has an image file, I cannot edit the axes of the file. Its opening it like a snapshto pic. I have never encountered this problem for the last few years. Is it related to version changes? I created the figs in 2010 and opening in 2012 version.

I have the same problem. I created figures in 2012, and have had no problem opening them manually. recently I tried to open them using a script hgload, and i recieved an 'error using load, unable to read mat file .... is not a binary mat file, try LOAD -ASCII' the files are *.fig. They have always opened manually. Now, after hgload, when I try to open the figures, it tries to import a variable, and I can no longer access my figures. I have found several postings of similar problems online, but no solutions. What can I do??
I have attached a figure that will no longer open as an example.
