I have 32 bit version of matlab software(r2012a). Now i want to change it to 64 bit version. So, is there a way to change to 64 bit version by changing some properties or should i install the 64 bit version newly?

No, you need a new install.

You can hove multiple versions of MATLAB installed on your computer simultaneously, including different releases, and both 64 and 32 bit versions of a release. So that is what you need to do. I have both 32 and 64 bit installed on my 64 bit computer for the current release, as well as those for a prior release (which I'll probably uninstall within the next month or so to free up disk space).
