Such as the cameraman:

  • Can I use him?
  • Do I cite MATLAB and MIT or just MIT?
  • Do I have to ask MIT for permission or is it assumed okay through MATLAB?

The general answer is that you should approach the copyright owner for permission to use sample images in your publications. For Image Processing Toolbox sample images, type this in order to see the copyright information:

>> help imdemos

and see the section at the bottom called "Photo credits." Sample images not listed under Photo credits are copyrighted by MathWorks.

The cameraman image is copyrighted by MIT, and you should approach them for permission to publish it if you need it.

Hello, If I use a sample image copyrighted by MathWorks, do I have to ask for permission? Do I have to approach someone in particular?

Thanks in advance!
