Hi.
To run Matlab apps, is it necessary to have Matlab installed on your system? Is it possible to run the apps with just Matlab Compiler Runtime (MCR)?
I have installed the most recent version of MCR. After downloading an app (.mlappinstall file) from Mathworks File Exchange, I could not figure out how to go about installing/running it. I could not find anything regarding this issue on the internet or Mathworks help page.

You need to have MATLAB, unless someone who has the compiler compiles an app for you, and in that case you need to have the MCR runtime library installed on your computer, but not the full blown MATLAB development environment. You can ask the Mathworks for a free 30 day trial of MATLAB.

Right. "apps" for the purpose of the File Exchange are nicely-packaged source code rather than independent executables.
