What is your alternative? The reason you would use one machine learning algorithm over the other can be several and based on your requirement. If it may comfort someone then I would usually point you to the Universal Approximation Theorem which states that an MLP can be a universal approximator among continuous functions:

I don't however have a specific answer in the case of TTS.
