How to apply scales in Gaussian filter

I had read an RGB image and converted into LAB color model, and splitted the three colors as L, A, B. My next step is to apply gaussian filter with different scales like 1, 2, 4, 8 to the splitted 3 colors. I don't know the how to aplly the gaussian filter with different scales. Please answer me.....
