Matlab won't install on Mountain Lion

What do you have to do to install MATLAB 2012b in Mountain Lion? I instaled quartz (which I guess is the new version of X11), but when I download the installer from I just get a download_agent file. If I try to open it I get an error
"The document download_agent" could not be opened. Dashcode can not open files in the "data" format.

I Google searched a bit, and it seems that Dashcode had been known to hijack the .jnpl extension, which is supposed to start Java.
Maybe one of these approaches will work:

Hi Bernoulli, MathWorks offers free installation support, you should just call them: http://www.mathworks.com/support/contact_us/index.html

The installation process offers a link for the case that the download agent does not work.

The download agent doesn't work for me either, at work. Probably some kind of network firewall/security issue. You can try downloading at home or else use the manual method (which the download page mentions), which is a bit tedious because you have to download several (16 in my case) components separately.
