Hi,
I am following instructions on this page http://www.mathworks.com/help/matlab/import_export/importing-hierarchical-data-format-hdf4-files.html#f5-69572 to subset and import data from HDF4 files. When I open a HDF4 file in the HDF Import Tool window, the words above 'subset selection parameters' read: Import: Scientific Data Set. Does this mean the HDF4 file that I am working with is of SD type, and not Vdata, Grid data, point data, etc?
Further, is there a way, either through the GUI or command, to subset HDF4 SD data using geographical co-ordinates (like how Grid data can be subset), and then importing it?
Thanks for any help.

HDF-experts are rare here.
I've just started to use HDF5. I use HDFView 2.9 to scrutinize files. That's helpful.

Hi,i am working on something similar. May be HDFEOS2dump is useful for you for subsetting data, and for importing i think hdftool is a way.
