Why can't I use the zoom or 3D rotate controls in figure files opened in the 2010a version (created in the 2009b version)?

I created some 3D .fig files in MATLAB 2009b. I saved each adjusted to a specific zoom and rotation. I then opened them in a different computer which had the 2010a version of MATLAB installed, and when I tried to rotate them or change the zoom, the controls just won't work. I press the buttons, and they appear "active", but the figure won't respond when I try to move it.
This is weird because I can't imagine how using a newer version could be causing any troubles. The figures worked fine when I opened them in yet another computer with the 2012a version...
Does anyone know what might be happening?
Thanks a lot!
Luis
