How to straighten the edges detected by using canny edge detection algo. Also, how to convert the curved edges into rectangle?

I am working on building extraction using Matlab. I had detected the building edges. Now i want to convert the output raster image into vector image and also want to convert the detected zig-zag (curved) boundaries into rectangles. Please help me in solving the problem.
