Any chance todays wavelet toolbox will work with R2011a ?

I was just about to buy the wavelet toolbox when R2013 came out. I have R2011a. Toolboxes are only available for the current and previous generation of matlab. I know it's best to have the latest (or prior) generation but is there any chance todays (or R2012's) wavelet toolbox will work with R2011a ? I really need this. A.B.

Most likely it won't work out.

Imagine buying a version of windows or MacOS, and 2 years later you can't buy any software for it. That's how I feel right now.

Are you sure you can't get the R2011a Wavelet Toolbox?

I would be very surprised if you could not. Call customer service!

Two generations has been Mathworks policy for some time.

Purchase R2013a MATLAB and R2013a Wavelet toolbox. Once you have those current licenses associated with your account, you will be able to download the R2011a Wavelet toolbox to use with your R2011a MATLAB.

Unless, that is, you are using R2011a Student Version. If you are using R2011a Student Version, then I am not sure you would have access to past versions; on the other hand, in that case, the current version would be only about $US130 for MATLAB and about $US30 for the Wavelet Toolbox.

Same situation here, at the start of the degree-programme we were recommended to get the student version. Two years later I am unable to get a toolkit that I need for current course work because my version is outdated??

I bought quite many tool-kits for 2011a and I do not feel like buying them yet again for 2013a. A degree programme takes longer than two years, so the software will be older that two releases at the time when you probably need it the most.

National Instruments has a similar ridiculous approach. Your university updates to the newest version and you cannot do your course work because the feature that is required has just been added with the new version - you however are not entitled to updates...

My annual software maintenance service subscription for MATLAB alone, the right to update MATLAB only, costs more than the total price of the Student Version of MATLAB together with the Student versions of all of the toolboxes that are supported in Student Version.

You have, what, say 5? extension toolboxes beyond the several that are included in the Student Version? $130 for MATLAB, 5*$30 for the extensions = $280, whereas my price to update MATLAB alone is about $550. That's after paying over $2000 for the initial license.

The Student Version of MATLAB, with all the toolboxes it includes, is priced at less than 5% of the professional / commercial value of the software.
