How to install Matlab on Windows 8?

I downloaded all the Matlab files onto my Windows 8, 64 bit computer and the installation process then runs up to the Visual C step when everything stops and the installation window goes away. No further information is provided and I can't find any Matlab icon in the Windows 8 program listing. Thanks.

I have just got exactly the same problem. Did you find any way around this?
