Running a stepper motor while recording sound data

The issue:
I want to run a timer function which will send digital pulses to a bipolar stepper motor driver through a National Instruments USB-6009 board. Simultaneously I need to record two channels of audio through my sound card.
Is there a way that I can do both at the same time (i.e. send pulses to my motor while recording sound)?
Here is some background if you want it:
I am working on a project where I would like to read in data from two different microphones at the same time. The first one will be stationary, and the second one will be revolving on an arm controlled by a stepper motor. Because of the requirements of the experiment, I need to be able to accurately control the stepper motor's speed. Ideally I will be collecting data through my computer's sound card. Right now, I am working with the Data Acquisition Toolbox's legacy interface.
