Maximum possible array/out of memory 64bit Matlab+Windows 8 pro

1 view (last 30 days)
Hi,
I am running Matlab 64bit on Windows 8 pro. I have 8gb of RAM installed on my laptop. When I enter memory I get the following:
Maximum possible array: 2237 MB (2.346e+09 bytes) *
Memory available for all arrays: 2237 MB (2.346e+09 bytes) *
Memory used by MATLAB: 574 MB (6.023e+08 bytes)
Physical Memory (RAM): 8077 MB (8.469e+09 bytes)
  • Limited by System Memory (physical + swap file) available.
I would like to allocate much more than the 2237 MB to my arrays and I do not understand why Matlab is not using more. I read some help pages in the Documentation Center and as far as I understood with a 64bit OS, 64 bit Matlab should be able to create larger arrays than that.
Does this have something to do with Windows? I would appreciate any help on this because I ran into this problem before and I thought buying this new laptop to switch to full 64bit with more physical RAM would fix some of these limitations.
Thanks in advance!
Andy

Does this just happen to be this way or did you change anything in order to allocate this amount? I guess you increased to swap file also to get more than your physical RAM? I do not even get my physical RAM as maximum possible array size.

I didn't tweak anything. This was result of a factory default install.
