How can I detect simple patterns in an image?

Hello,

I am new in Matlab. However I am professional in Java and C++.

Anyway, I have a bunch of medical images that every image includes one special patterns with different color (for example blue). Assume we have two patterns.

Filled or Empty curves with the blue color. Please take a look on the attached photo includes both figures.

I should detect the image whether my image includes which pattern. I need to a sample code or guideline.
