[R2013b] graphical ActiveX objects don't display in GUIs

ActiveX objects aren't showing up in the GUIs in R2013b. I don't have this issue in any prior releases. For example, run guide, place an ActiveX control (e.g. Windows Media Player) and run the figure. It is empty. Is anyone else having this problem?
