Hi there,
I am a mechanical engineering student and am trying to model a rail coupler for a series of trains. I am given the number of loaded rail cars, the steady state speed range, the time required to reach full speed, properties of the coupler, mass of each rail car and locomotive, number of axles, power produced by the locomotive, coefficients of friction, and frontal area. I read through a tutorial for Simulink that worked for a locomotive and one rail car. I am not sure how to model the entire system properly with Simulink due to my lack of experience. I have drawn the free body diagram and understand how to derive the dynamics involved, but not sure how to connect the dots. If anyone could give me some insight on how to model this more appropriately it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
