Is the LZW compression functionality available with the MATLAB imaging capabilities?

Now that the Unisys LZW (compression technique) patent has expired. Is MATLAB going to have a patch that will add this to the standard IMREAD and IMWRITE commands?

This enhancement has been made for Release 14 SP1 (R14SP1). In this release, IMWRITE has been upgraded to enable exporting images in GIF format. For previous product releases, please read below for any possible workarounds:

The ability to write GIF files using IMWRITE is not available in MATLAB 7.0 (R14). You can read GIF files, however, using IMREAD.
