Target Installer requires an internet connect to download third-party software and Linux firmware for the BeagleBoard (due to licensing reasons we cannot include the third party software with your MATLAB installation).
Currently, the only way to get the files required for BeagleBoard support is to go through the entire installation process. Once the installation is done, you can copy the downloaded files to a non-networked computer and use them to install BeagleBoard support. Please consult the steps below in this regard.
Please note this solution will also work for:
o Beagleboard installation in R2012b, and
o Pandaboard installation in R2012b
o USRP Radio support package installation in R2012a and R2012b
Steps to install BeagleBoard Support Package on a non-networked computer:
1) In your networked computer's MATLAB comand prompt please execute the following command
>> targetinstaller
2) On the first screen, make note of the folder location that is grayed out, that is where the files will be
downloaded.
3) On the next screen, select BeagleBoard as the platform to install. The installation folder can be left as
default or changed. This folder specifies where the BeagleBoard support will be installed, while the folder on the previous screen specifies where the downloaded archives will be saved.
4) The next screen will show you the software elements that will be downloaded and installed, and in the case of the Beagleboard these are 4 of the software elements you will port later. Click ‘Install’ if you accept the license terms.
5) In addition to the support package, the BeagleBoard support requires a particular Linux image which is automatically downloaded by Target Installer. The next screen appears as follows, click next to continue.
6) After following directions and clicking through some screens you arrive to the following screen. Here
you can leave the download source as internet, and make note of the folder location that is used. If you
want you can use the same download directory used in the first step.
7) Continue with the installation instructions as directed, and it is recommended to get to the final screen,
which prompts to open the demos, and pick one of the demos to confirm all is functional for this computer
which is on the internet.
8) Collect the files that will be ported to the computer that does not have internet access. Here is a screen
shot with those that are required for Beagleboard (note version numbers and names may change with what
you have downloaded as the latest). Note that 4 of the files are from your first download directory, and the
img.7z file is from the second. You may have selected the same download directory. Note that the linux
image was likely unzipped, and you will only need to copy/port the zipped version as shown below.
9) Take these files and copy to the computer without an internet connection.
10) Run >> targetinstaller on the computer without the internet connection, and in the first screen, select
the folder option, and give it the location of the copied files
11) The next screen will list BeagleBoard as your one option you can install
12) Again, the folder location here is where the software will be installed. You can consider the folder
you copied earlier as the location of downloaded software elements.
13) The Support Package will be installed, and you now need to move ahead with BeagleBoard firmware
update. Note that if the firmware update was already done on the earlier machine (and it is the same
BeagleBoard you have brought to the computer without internet connection), you do not need to do this step
again. But if a new Beagleboard, please continue.
14) On the screen for firmware download, select the folder option, and point to the same folder that you
copied earlier. And hit ‘download’. That will initiate the unzip process and continue as you did
15) Run a demo when complete to confirm all has been set up correctly.
