Why am I unable to see dialog boxes opened by the MATLAB 6.5 (R13.0.1) Editor/Debugger when it is in certain locations on the screen?

If I have the MATLAB 6.5 (R13.0.1) Editor/Debugger open and moved to one the corners of my monitor, I am sometimes unable to view dialog boxes that appear. For instance, if I attempt to open a new file from the MATLAB command line as follows:
edit foo.m
I should see a dialog box asking me whether I want to create this file. The dialog box is not present on the screen and the Editor/Debugger now appears to be non-responsive.

This is a bug in MATLAB 6.5 (R13.0.1). The dialog box appears, but is not visible on the screen. As a workaround, resizing the Windows taskbar will often cause windows that are displayed partially off-screen to be pushed onto the desktop. Alternatively, upgrading to a more recent release of MATLAB also fixes this issue.
